Food Futures Tablescape By Rajyashri Goody

About the Exhibit

This is a display of a set of 12-15 leaf plates sitting on a long narrow wooden table. Ceramic objects resembling food items like rice and rotis, pieces of meat, elements in nature like leaves, stones, petals and pebbles, lie on the leaf plates. Some of the plates remain empty.

Rajyashri’s work attempts to address anxieties of food security, mobility, and human dignity. It brings to attention historically marginalized groups that have been struggling with food and water security for centuries already due to religious and social hierarchies, leaving many in an even more vulnerable position in the future.

Poems/recipes drawn from research as well as Dalit food narratives found in memoirs and autobiographies, accompany the exhibit.
